Himalayan cooking, pub setting

A Nepalese kitchen at the heart of a Gaywood local

The Queen Elizabeth is the former Wildfowler, refurbished and reopened in 2025 with a Nepalese-led kitchen. The difference you taste is the cooking.

Nepalese home cooking sits between the food of the Himalayas and the kitchens of South Asia: gentler than a heavy curry house, built on fresh herbs, house-ground spice blends and slow-cooked meat on the bone. Our team brings that cooking to a proper pub — so you can order a plate of momo and a pint at the same table.

It is not a separate restaurant tucked away in the back. The same kitchen sends out hand-folded dumplings, tandoor grills and Himalayan curries next to fish and chips, burgers and a kids' menu. Bring a group where one person wants Khasi Ko Masu and another wants a beef burger, and everyone eats well.

Many of the signature dishes lean on ingredients you rarely see on a standard menu — timur (Nepalese pepper), akabare chilli, jimbu and mustard — so it is worth asking the team what to try if it is your first visit.

  • Steamed momo

Nepal's best-loved dumplings, folded by hand and steamed — order them veg or chicken to share before the mains arrive.

  • Sekuwa & clay-oven grills

Marinated lamb sekuwa and tandoor grills carry the smoke and char of Himalayan-style cooking.

  • House-ground spice

Timur (Nepalese pepper), akabare chilli, jimbu and mustard give our curries a flavour you won't find in a standard curry house.

  • Veg and vegan choices

From Special Veggie Tarkari to paneer and daal, there's a full spread of meat-free Nepalese cooking alongside the grills.
